Plausibility

Plausibility

(Trish Jean)

Three times today
I saw a man that could have been you
One had your crossed legs and
Brown shoes
Another the company
I think you’d keep in the city
The third almost had your luminosity
The intrinsic brightness not always
Given leave
Tied to your own crowing cock
But whose denial is it
And does it change
The plausibility that it was you?

If you denied yourself it couldn’t have been you

Three times today
I found a voice that could have been yours
One had your narrative caught
Paper bound
Another the silence
I think you’d hold on the ferry
The third had your manner of speech and
Rumpled rapidity of words when laughing
The wind colludes to try and
Whip away
The speaking, steaming
Sounds of your industry
Denying that it could be you?

If you were denied it couldn’t have been you

Three times today
I missed a man that could have been you
One had your wings on his body
Arched reaching
Another the subjection
I think you’d clothe in holey amour
The third stood at your station and
Held his body almost like yours but
He had no wounds and
Story-less steps
I am at a station of the cross
An impractical reverie
Wanting it to be you?

If I denied you it couldn’t have been you
