Sometimes There’s Time and a Track

Photography: Trish Jean

I’m a sucker for a bridge and after spying a railway bridge from the highway between Canberra and Goulburn today I went in search of it…and didn’t find it!

I had time and there was a dirt track so I took it and ended up winding my way through the Yass Valley where the only bridges I encountered were the single lane vehicle bridges over the Yass River. There’s been a lot of rain and despite signage indicating water on the road and bridges they were clear.

I did eventually end up in Yass and found their disused rail bridge over a more significant stretch of the River. It’s great it has trees growing up through it! I was happy to find that you can walk around underneath it, even if you’re not meant to climb on the top.

Glad to take the road less travelled…or the railway going nowhere!

Railway termini are our gates to the glorious and the unknown. Through them we pass out into adventure and sunshine, to them, alas! we return. – E.M. Forster
