“The walking of which I speak has nothing in it akin to taking exercise, as it is called, as the sick take medicine at stated hours …but it is itself the enterprise and adventure of the day.”- Henry David Thoreau, Walking
My walking today was not really in the spirit of Thoreau’s, however it’s always good when I’m travelling to take time to walk around and see what there is to be seen.
I was lucky today that my time in Melbourne coincides with the Writers Festival. I had enough time after checking into my hotel on Flagstaff Gardens to walk to Federation Square, the Festival venue, making it an adventure with the camera even though I didn’t have time to linger looking for Druid’s or Little Red Riding Hood or drinking in my fill at the State Library of Victoria. I did loiter a little at the Princes Bridge over the Yarra River…watching the rowers and appreciating the trees that have Autumn coloured leaves mingling with the Spring buds.
Hoping tomorrow to squeeze in some more wandering in the early evening…this time with a jacket and scarf!
