Soon

Soon

(Trish Jean)

Soon comes comfort
If you walk about in the world
She saw in the dimness the sun put on moon’s coat
Its luminosity did not fit
It poured from the coat pockets
Rivulets rolling from the points of the collar
And inside the tears as they fell and struck her
She spied stories
Song of Songs
Grace in action
Darcy intense and Elizabeth crestfallen
What is left has fallen
And my eyes cannot turn away
But this is just distraction.

Soon comes comfort
If you walk about in the day
Dreams brought myths and the
Questioning of truths
Sleep gives no shelter
Tasks of the day are an ineffective maze
She caught stories wandering
Supermarket aisles
Telling tales in trolleys
And chose to climb inside them while
She waited
Italy and Asia
Acrid and Sweet
The tastes of the tale makers
And my mouth cannot open
But this is just distraction.

Soon comes comfort
If you walk about in the interior
In her cabins and caverns
She felt stories
In the density of the walls
and the haunting faces of characters that stared back
And while she let the meanings colour her
Her hands folded crumpled paper from the floor
Painted in ink made from the woven blues of
Sky and sea
And the words described the moments
Soon when her heart no longer
Needs holding
She would lay it in this paper box
For safe keeping
Where it is quiet
And my ears cannot reach for the cries
But this is just distraction.
